First Selectman

Catherine Iino
The First Selectman is Killingworth's chief administrative officer, overseeing the day-to-day operation of the town, reviewing the current and future needs of the town and planning for their fulfillment, works on behalf of the town at the regional and state level, and ensuring that the town government complies with applicable laws and rules. The First Selectman serves as chairman of the Board of Selectmen, as police chief, and in other roles assigned by statute to the chief executive of the town.

I am happy to report that Killingworth is on an even keel, even though the economic waters are choppy at best. Because we have such terrific, dedicated townspeople—economists would call them “human capital”—we are able to keep moving forward on projects that will make our community even stronger, without increasing our town budget. If you are already active in one of these efforts, from the Killingworth Volunteer Fire Company or the community gardens at Parmelee Farm, not to mention the town’s many boards or commissions, many thanks. If you are not, I urge you to get involved. We make a great team.

Free Prescription Drug Discount Program in Killingworth

The Town of Killingworth, through its association with the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, the statewide association of towns and cities, is now providing a prescription discount card that gives steep savings on prescription medicines to uninsured and underinsured residents.

Killingworth is a member of CCM, and this new program is available only to CCM member-communities.

In Connecticut, over 10 percent of Connecticut residents – nearly 360,000 people – currently lack health insurance and prescription plans and another 800,000 residents are underinsured. There are over 50 million uninsured individuals living in the United States.

The Killingworth Prescription Drug Discount Card helps residents save money on their prescription medications any time their prescription is not covered by insurance. Highlights of the card program include:
  • Anyone can participate regardless of age or income;
  • All prescription medications are covered, even pet prescriptions that can be filled at a pharmacy;
  • There is no cost to the municipality or to participating residents;
  • Cost savings average 45 percent;
  • The card may be used at the Killingworth Family Pharmacy in town and over 63,000 participating pharmacies nationwide, including CVS, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Stop and Shop, and Big Y;
  • Discounts are also offered on other medical services including vision, hearing, and Lasik services.
"We all know that high health care costs are straining people's budgets. I'm glad that we can take this one small step, at no cost to our taxpayers, to help the pocketbooks uninsured and underinsured residents," said Killingworth First Selectwoman Cathy Iino, "and I'm grateful to CCM for developing this very accessible solution."

"CCM is pleased to offer this valuable community service to Killingworth," said CCM Executive Director and CEO Jim Finley. "Many families are struggling and even some families with health insurance may not have all their prescriptions covered. This program will help them save money on any medicines not covered by their insurance."

Each residence in Killingworth will receive a Killingworth Prescription Discount Card by direct mail. Cards may be used by all town residents regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage. There are no enrollment forms, membership fees, restrictions or limits on frequency of use. Cards can also be downloaded and printed by visiting www.CTRxDiscountCard.com, and selecting Killingworth from the drop-down menu.

"I hope that cardholders and their family members will use the cards any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance," said First Selectwoman Iino.
