The Traffic Safety Committee provides advice and assistance to the Legal Traffic Authority, which is the Board of Selectmen, and to the Resident State Trooper. The committee investigates concerns of town residents regarding traffic safety and makes recommendations for resolution of these issues.

The Committee’s actions have included
  1. Obtaining a DOT Traffic Safety Enforcement Grant for the town.
  2. Drafting a zoning regulation requiring that developers of major building projects (e.g., subdivisions) conduct a traffic impact study at their expense, to include effect on infrastructure, traffic volume, and the like, as part of the building application process.
  3. Conducting a survey of town roads—covering existing signage, sight-line issues, and input from local residents—and preparing an inventory with suggested priorities.
  4. Facilitating the installation of a more visible “No Turn on Red” sign on eastbound Rte. 148 at the intersection with Rte. 81.
The Traffic Safety Committee normally meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month, at the Resident State Trooper’s Office.
